Deer are generally found in the wild except those stored in the zoos or wildlife reservations, they are also commonly used in Wildlife Advertising. They generally live in inland areas as well as the most widespread deer in North America is the white-tailed deer. Deer are beautiful animals with their imposing antlers, which are body parts that stretched out of their skulls which must be cast off after annually.
Antlers are composed of dead bones and they’re not permanent compared to horns. They protrude in the skull of a deer and their point of origin is known as pedicels. They are required to be eliminated annually as that is part of the anatomy. It is very important to note that females seldom grow antlers because males have plentiful amount of testosterone which is the hormone that’s crucial for their development. Deer with more powerful antlers will breed more frequently than those with poorer ones because the former will be able to dominate the latter.
Antlers are usually shed during the winter months of November, December and January. When they are growing, they are covered with a protective coating called velvet. By late summer, the velvet starts to dry and in reaction to the, the deer begin to rub their antlers against trees and shrubs so that the velvet could fall off.
Older bucks usually start the shedding procedure before smaller dollars but their growth depends on the amount of food consumed. The quicker a male can shed its sterile velvet, the faster it can start to confront different men for breeding rights because at this moment, their testosterone level is at its peak. The breeding season is attracted to an end for any man once the antlers begin to shed.
When spring starts, the preceding antlers would have shed new and completely ones start to grow. At this period, new antlers are extremely sensitive to harm because plenty of energy must grow them and also the protective velvet coating includes a blood source filled with minerals. Antlers will grow back for approximately five months. Deer will be the number one creature which could be hunted legally in the United States because without hunting them, their figures would become intolerable for most towns and cities.
